I had the chance to travel to Rishikesh as a digital nomad just before the corona crisis explode like crazy. I was a solo woman traveller and excited about this. Now after one and a half year later, I started this website and found the article you will see below in my notes. It's so sweet to read it after all the adventure. So I decided to share it with you.

----

On the last day of February in 2020, I took a long flight to New Delhi from Istanbul to start my second solo travel ever after Spain 10 years ago. I have a lot of days to spend in India, but only one destination: Rishikesh.

Rishikesh for digital nomads

PS: That was what I was thinking about when I wrote this article on my way to India. Then, lockdown came and changed all the plans. You will read it soon in another post.

So, I decided to write about my own experience as a digital nomad and writer. I hope you like it and it helps you enjoy your own solo travels better.

I made my plans months before the day of my departure to organize my works (as I write for various blogs and I am responsible for posting blog articles regularly for them). Also, I wanted to be in Rishikesh in March because:

Summer almost starts there in March

But it is not very hot. The rooms with an air conditioner are usually pretty more expensive than the others. And in March, I would not need to pay more for AC rooms.

And I would enjoy the outdoor activities longer while ending my winter season for the year by leaving it back in Turkey. Yes, as far as what I read online, March seemed to be the best time to go to Rishikesh.

I have just left my master’s thesis behind

Yes, I am a kind of ‘ever student people. I was 30 and just finished my master’s degree by delivering my thesis and completing other paper works to graduate. So after such a tense period in my life (work + master's), I thought that I would need a break in March. I guess that was one of my best thoughts. Thank me!

There are festivals in India in March

I have been living a calm life in a small district on the west coast of Turkey for a while. So, I was kind of missing these festival times when many people gathered together and shared similar moods. On my first day in Rishikesh, International Yoga Festival started, which I found exciting because it sounds great to see many people doing yoga at the bench of River Ganga.

PS 2: I didn't join as it was way too expensive for me.

Also, there is this colour festival, a.k.a Holi Fest, which I have limited information about, for now. Now is during the IndiGo flight to New Delhi from Istanbul Airport. It will take around 5 and a half hours. I have chosen this company because they have direct flights from Istanbul and offer the cheapest options. There are positive comments on the internet about them, and my experience is all positive until now. However, do not expect full ergonomic seats and large spaces for your long legs.

Water served in a paper cup is free of charge. The menu within the plane is full of typical Indian food. There are hot and cold options. I eat some kind of spicy noodle (ready-to-eat bowl) and paid 3 dollars.

(An addition: They refunded me even before I asked for it as the flights were cancelled because of covid. Not all companies did the same.)

That’s all for now. Wish me luck!

PS 3: Luck found me in Rishikesh, wish you the same :)
